AQUATIC THERAPY BENEFITS:

  • Decreased impact
  • Less pain
  • Early return to running
  • Early return to jumping
  • Reduce the likelihood of developing compensation patterns with a walking gait
  • Deloaded strengthening
  • Reduced swelling and inflammation
  • Increase activity tolerance
  • Reduces pain with activity
  • Allows for a gradual return to activity at full body weight
  • Cardiovascular benefits

AQUATIC PERFORMANCE TRAINING BENEFITS:

  • Active recovery workout ideal for midweek
  • Reduce muscle soreness
  • Develop concentric power
  • Low eccentric loading means less muscle soreness results
  • Cardiovascular conditioning with low impact
  • Gives the joints a break from impact
  • Decreased eccentric load allows athletes to improve landing and deceleration force absorption techniques

Aquatic Physical Therapy versus Aquatic Performance Training

Water is an incredible tool for both physical therapy rehab and performance training due to its natural properties.

AQUATIC PHYSICAL THERAPY

Water creates buoyancy, which means it makes you lighter thereby reducing impact of exercises. For this reason, pool therapy is great for patients that have too much pain or weakness at full body weight. Whether you are post operative, or suffering from chronic low back pain, or are just getting back to running and jumping after injury or surgery, the buoyancy of the pool water creates the perfect environment for a gradual return to activity at full body weight.

Water also creates a graded pressure effect, which means the deeper you go the more pressure there is. Therefore, the water creates a natural retro flow of the blood from the limbs back into the circulatory system and back to the heart. This makes pool exercises great for reducing swelling and inflammation, even with lymphatic diseases.

AQUATIC PERFORMANCE TRAINING

These two properties of water make aquatic performance training ideal for athletes as well, and is the reason we typically do a pool workout as a mid week active recovery! The graded pressure of the water helps reduce muscle soreness by pushing lactic acid and metabolites from the limbs back into the circulatory system, leaving you feeling refreshed and recovered.

The buoyancy also leads to very little absorption or eccentric force with landing, but also creates resistance to all concentric forces. What does this mean? It means we can work on concentric power (ie jumping) with limited eccentric forces (landing) which are the forces that make you sore!

What our cLIENTS are saying

ALKEME MARK_DARK_BKGRD_GOLD.png

Bryan is my primary Physical Therapist (PT) and he has been outstanding, as have the others I interacted with on the staff. All have been professional, friendly, down to earth, shown genuine care for my physical and emotional well-being, and were extremely knowledgeable. My overall experience has been a positive one. While it has only been about a month, I have seen great results, as my shoulder is stronger and the pain and discomfort I originally had are all but gone. I look forward to each of my sessions and would recommend Alkeme for those requiring PT. Thanks to the team for helping me get back in the fight!

I've had injuries for over 15 years and this team helped me to get back to doing the things I love again even though I'm 15 years older, and people said it's just "old age." Do yourself a favor and don't accept age as an excuse as to why you are limited, hurting, and can't do the things you love anymore. Chances are, you're truly hurt and need experts to help guide your body back to feeling normal and pain free again. Everyone on the team is passionate about what they do and loves challenges. They're like a family and they even collab when/if needed to ensure you're getting 1001% on your rehab journey. You deserve waking up with less or no pain, and being able to participate in sports and daily activities without fear and regrets. Invest in yourself and prepare to be rewarded. 🙂👍🏾
